Do you know your rights and responsabilities?
Warning! The Act respecting the regulation of work by children was assented to on June 1, 2023. This law aims to regulate child labour and provides a general age limit to work in Quebec, with some exceptions. As a result, our workshop is currently under review. |

1. At what age can a person be charged with a crime? (Criminal responsibility)

2. In Quebec, at what age can a person get married?
B. 16 years old, with the authorization of a judge
Before the age of 16, it is not possible to get married. A judge’s authorization is required for 16- and 17-year-olds.
The judge will make sure that the future spouses understand the responsibilities of marriage and that they are not getting married under pressure from their family or other people.

3. At what age does a young person have the right to make decisions about their health without parental consent? (prescriptions for certain medications, vaccination, abortion, consulting a psychologist, etc.)

4. In Quebec, at what age can a young person get a job?
D. There is no minimum age
The law does not specify a minimum age for a person to start working. However, before the age of 14, a young person who wants to start working must get their parents’ written permission. Also, before the age of 16, the job cannot interfere with the young person’s studies. For example, an employer cannot make someone under 16 work during their school hours.
