Quebec Legal Education Week:

Description

Nearly 200 volunteer legal professionals will be visiting thousands of young students in Quebec high schools!

From November 13 to 17, Éducaloi will be holding the fourth edition of the Quebec Legal Education Week (QLEW), sponsored by the Minister of Justice of Quebec, Simon Jolin-Barrette.

What is Quebec Legal Education Week?

These are free, interactive, fun workshops introducing youth to the law. They take place during a class period and are led by volunteer legal professionals. Their aim is to encourage youth to reflect, to discuss their ideas and to take a stand on everyday legal issues.

During the week, volunteer legal professionals across Quebec will present Éducaloi’s Pick your Side! workshop, which invites students to tackle debate topics like:

  • Do I have the right to post a photo on Facebook or Instagram without asking the permission of the people in the photo?
  • Do I have the right to date an adult if I’m a minor?
  • Does the school principal have the power to search lockers whenever he wants?
  • Should cosmetic surgery be banned for youth?

The QLEW is also an excellent opportunity to bring the legal community and schools closer together. During this week, two worlds that may seem far apart will come together, interact, reflect and promote the importance of legal education in everyday life.

In other words, QLEW is a one-of-a-kind event that gives students a fun introduction to the law.
